Trinity presents itself as powerful in Italy, and its recent portfolio presentation allowed many of the neighbour`s diamonds to shine.
  • HOLY TRINITY IN ITALIAN! | Articles & Know-how

Trinity`s business includes the distribution of countless top domestic wineries and the importation of great wines from big names in the global wine world. Of course, Italy is no exception, as its wine performance is among the world`s best in terms of both quantity and quality.

The leader`s collection is so rich that tasting the Italian labels kept me busy for several hours, but wines like the following proved that the effort was worth it. Of course, the Reds once again stole the show. Suppose your taste prefers acidic complexity and finesse to jammy, barrel-aged exuberance. In that case, any suggestions below will please those who bring them to their glasses.

Sparkling wines

Zellina, Moscato Rosa 2023: This rosé, semi-sweet closed-tank sparkling comes from the Anselmi family winery. As the name suggests, the intense rose is balanced, soft and sweet. (7,5/10)

Il Falchetto, Alta Langa Blanc de Blancs NV: The highly prestigious Docg Alta Langa is all about traditional fermented Piedmontese sparkling wines, such as this Chardonnay that stays for 36months with the lees acquiring a long toasted finish. (8/10)

White wines

Altesino, Bianco di Toscana 2023: Chardonnay contributes the volume, Viognier the apricot aroma and Vermentino the acidic minerality. However, the latter dominates, so this Tuscan accessible white is austere and sophisticated. (8/10)

Canti, Chardonnay 2023: Can a Chardonnay priced under €5 be better than this? I highly doubt it, as the Piedmontese winery`s offering is pure, flavorfully balanced and generous with white-fleshed fruit! (7,5/10)

La Scolca, Sol Lui 2022: With this cuvee, the Piedmontese winery departs from its 100-year-old tradition of Cortese, yet offers us a clean as well as explosive in character "cat`s pee" Sauvignon Blanc. +1 year. (8/10)

Reguta, Prediale 2023: The Anselmi family ventures into Fruilli with this blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Ribolla Gialla being their premium cuvee. And rightly so, the Prediale musky is balanced, soft, peppery and long. (8/10)

San Leonardo, Vette 2023: In the shadow of the Dolomites, the winery with a 300-year history proves capable of astonishing with its whites as well. The crystal clear Sauvignon Blanc Vette is light, particularly long and full of gooseberry expressiveness.

Tascante, Buonora Etna Bianco2023: From the Tasca winery in Etna comes this 100% Carricante. Low in intensity and high in sulfur-filled minerality, it has a medium body and wild acidity. Does all this remind you of Santorini? (8.5/10)

Red wines

Altesino, Rosso di Toscana 2022: A little Cabernet and Merlot complement the Sangiovese in this well-priced red with its medium body, good acidity, red fruit, and tea character screams "Tuscany"! (8/10)

Altesino, Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli 2018: yes, the price is in the triple digits, but this single vineyard Brunello justifies it as it sends the needles of concentration, structure, length, quality tannins and tea and cranberry flavour into the reds! (9/10)

Chiarlo, Barbera La Court Nizza Reserva 2020: once again, this supreme Barbera from the Cru zone of Nice is breathtaking with its pure cherry, hibiscus, minerality and excellent peppery length. But give it a 5 year... (9/10)

Chiarlo, Barolo Cannubi 2020: from just 1ha of Barolo`s most charismatic (by many) vineyards, the Cannubi excels in fruit purity and flavour length while promising tears in the eyes after 15 years (9/10)

Il Falchetto, Barbera d` Asti Pian Scorpone 2023: One of the top quality/price ratios in world wine! Vinified in inox, Barbera is fleshy, hedonistic, and explosive, based on the aromas of hibiscus and blackberry. Wonderful! (8,5/10)

Nittardi, Chianti Classico Belcanto 2021: If you (like me) judge a producer by their base label, then this old vine Chianti, with its floral expressiveness, subtle initial sweetness and beautiful wood, will send Nittardi to ... heaven! (8,5/10)

Nittardi, Chianti Classico Riserva 2019: An epic wine that sets the bar of finesse, complexity and flavour length too high for almost any Chianti. And it fills the glass with cedar, graphite and tangy red fruit. +10 years. (9/10)

Ricasoli, Brolio Chianti Classico Riserva 2020: a wonderful old-school expression of good Chianti from a family with a millennium of history! Pale and spicy, based on red fruit structure, high acidity and soft tannins (8.5/10)

Romitorio, Brunello di Montalcino 2018: the relatively low aromatic intensity enhances this austere Brunello`s "dark" feel. Dense in red and black fruit aromas, it is austere, long and full of quality tannins. +10years (8.5/10)

San Leonardo, San Leonardo 2018. Super-dense minerality and fruit freshness, persistent finesse, ideally finely woven tannins, a rigour for 15 years. (9/10)

Tasca d` Almerita, Regaleali Nero d` Avola 2021: The primary red of the iconic Sicilian counts 63 (!) vintages, with all that this means for its fine-tuning. Expressively floral, low in acidity and balanced sweetness! Oh, and economical... (8/10)

Zenato, Valpolicella Superiore Ripassa 2020: a Valpolicella is re-fermented with the grapes of an Amarone, and the result is a fleshy, soft cuvee that puts heavy sage and chocolatey sweetness in the glass in a wonderfully airy way. (8,5/10)
