Wine critic

I was born in 1968 since that year did not offer anything significant to the world of wine.

Although I graduated from the Economics Department of the University of Athens, I immediately realized that I was not capable of filling my pocket, so I decided to at least fill my glass and my plate!

Since 1999, I have been professionally involved with wine and taste as an oenographer and critic. I have written articles in many magazines and newspapers—such as Eleftherotypia's E-Gourmet, Ef Zin, Umami, Status, and Esquire—and served as a wine consultant at the restaurants Spondi and Chytra and as a member of the E-Gourmet awards committee.

Today, I collaborate with Kathimerini's Oinochoos and Vima Gourmet, and I also have my own blog, simosgeorgopoulosblog.wordpress.com, where I write my woe.

The unlucky students of the Genius in Gastronomy school and the postgraduate departments of the Agricultural University of Athens and TEI of Oenology often fall asleep at their desks listening to my ranting, while the participants of the tastings I organize entitled "Crassarisms" do the same.

I have written the bilingual monographs Only the Best (Axon, 2000) and A Wine Glass Full of Greece (Papasotiriou, 2009), but they are no longer available on the market.

Instead, darts targets with my face are everywhere - since they adorn countless wineries and restaurants - allowing the professionals who have fallen victim to my good-natured but harsh criticism to spend their leisure time pleasantly...
