As things currently stand, Riviera Galleria looks set to be one of the first major components of the long-awaited and highly ambitious The Ellinikon development to open to the public. The latest information, still subject to final confirmation, points to an opening sometime in 2027. Designed by award-winning architect Kengo Kuma, Riviera Galleria will be a striking new retail and dining destination on The Ellinikon waterfront, facing the Agios Kosmas marina. The entire first floor is expected to be devoted to restaurants.
Over the years, numerous Greek and international names and brands have been linked with the project. While many are still pending, Zuma has been one of the constants from the outset and, to a large extent, one of its headline attractions. It is, after all, one of the most successful global restaurant brands operating today, while its success in Mykonos is beyond dispute. Other names currently being discussed include Papaioannou, Brunello and Tashas, the South African-born brand founded by Natasha Sideris, which now operates 47 venues across five countries, among others.
As discussions and negotiations continue, one thing is clear: we are talking about a dining destination with around 4,250 seats, the majority of them in high-end restaurants. Making that scale of operation work will require patience, resilience and careful planning, at least until The Ellinikon begins to develop a substantial residential population beyond its existing local audience. That challenge is already becoming visible across the Athens Riviera. Some ambitious openings and projects launched in anticipation of The Ellinikon are already struggling to sustain momentum while they wait for the wider development to reach completion.
