My first impressions from my meal at the La Suite Lounge restaurant of the Saint George Lycabettus can be summed up in two words: deliciousness and finesse. Make that three if we also include the view.

Although the Saint George Lycabettus Hotel has seen some of our most famous chefs pass through the kitchens of its sixth-floor restaurants (Le Grand Balcon and La Suite Lounge), none can overlook that its greatest asset remains the panoramic and truly unobstructed view of every corner of Athens` horizon. This is precisely why these restaurants hold a prominent place on my agenda; I recommend them whenever someone asks where to take their foreign guests or when they mention that their meal has a romantic aspect.

However, a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to dine again at La Suite Lounge, where I tried several dishes from the new menu, now crafted by the hotel`s new executive chef, Stefanos Papanikolaou. My first impressions were so positive that I felt it was worth writing a few words, this time without linking the view to the food itself. Everything I tried was meticulously prepared and particularly delicious. Although he had only recently taken on his new role, it was clear that he had already established a clear direction for his cuisine. His dishes exude Greece, not only because they are inspired by tradition but also because he has chosen and utilised local products that enhance their flavours.

Among them, I particularly highlighted a well-thickened and creamy kakavia soup (fish soup), seasoned with Kozani saffron and combined with blue crab and fennel root. Also impressive were the stifado (stew) beef cheeks, paired with handmade orzo from Taygetus and a finely crafted cream of Naxian arseniko cheese. There’s no need to list more dishes. I must emphasise the overall quality of the dishes I tried, the excellent performance, the precision in executing the recipes, and the delicacy of the plates—a rare virtue in today`s culinary scene—that paradoxically does not preclude certain bold flavours. I believe that we will return at some point, as this new narrative continues to develop.
