A new chapter begins for the atmospherically charming enoteca Nebbiolo in Ekali as it welcomes the summer season. The restaurant, run by Yiannis Morakis, Christos Flokos, and Nikos Tsoudis, located in the historic premises of the former "Narcissus," maintains its Italian character. However, from 12 May, the menu will be crafted by chef and owner of Napul’e in Vari — and fellow co-owner of Foccaceria Napul’e in Athens — Francesco Granata, who last year ranked 68th in The Best Pizza Awards.

For Granata, who is taking over the kitchen at Nebbiolo from Thodoris Papanikolaou, this new collaboration is a very welcome challenge, as he told me. Although his role is primarily advisory, he plans to make a deep cut into Nebbiolo`s menu, placing significant emphasis on its revival. "For me, tradition is the alpha and omega of Italian cuisine. No matter how interesting modern innovations might be at times, I remain fully committed to this belief. So, at Nebbiolo, the heart of the flavours will beat to a classic rhythm. I have no intention of creating another replica of Napul’e. Nebbiolo will have its own, distinct identity."

Glancing at the menu, I see dishes ranging from Neapolitan panzanella, vitello tonnato, and cacio e pepe, to classic favourites like carbonara, along with the renowned polpette and bistecca fiorentina. Naturally, Granata’s exceptional pizzas are also central to the offering. For dessert, they will serve tiramisu, pistachio gelato, and a Neapolitan baba.
