Since retiring from professional football, Beckham swiftly became a co-owner of Inter Miami and, as it has proven, a shrewd businessman. He invested in numerous ventures, leveraging his personal sex appeal and the substantial earnings from his transfer fees. It is no coincidence that he has featured in campaigns for several major international brands, often earning fees that are truly staggering.

In an era where well-known celebrities—whether in the arts or beyond—launch their own clothing, accessories, and beauty lines or collaborate with established brands as creative directors, it comes as no surprise that this popular former British footballer has partnered with a renowned German fashion house to create a new collection.

From musician Pharrell Williams, who took charge of Louis Vuitton’s men’s collection, to Rihanna’s cosmetics and apparel lines—her brand recently joining the billionaire club—profits generated from the broader fashion industry remain exceptionally substantial. Even in times of economic downturn, luxury goods continue to yield significant margins.

It’s worth remembering that the automotive and fashion industries remain among the most lucrative globally. Beckham’s collaboration with Hugo Boss clearly exemplifies how high-profile partnerships in the luxury sector continue to thrive and generate immense commercial success.

These examples are merely the tip of the iceberg. Jennifer Aniston’s hair care brand, built around her iconic hairstyle, reportedly generates substantial profits. Similarly, Kanye West`s collaboration with Adidas, despite ending on a contentious note due to the artist`s controversial statements, earned over a billion euros for the brand.

More recently, A$AP Rocky, a leading figure in modern psychedelic hip-hop, was appointed as Creative Director at Ray-Ban—a role that had not previously existed. Until now, the brand’s design team, without a formal leader, had been responsible for creating the iconic eyewear since its founding.

All of this brings us to a (not unreasonable) conclusion: Beckham’s collaboration with Hugo Boss could turn out to be a significant commercial success—especially considering that he is not only impeccably dressed but also possesses a refined sense of aesthetics and style.

To briefly outline the history of the German house, it was founded in 1924 and established itself in the following decade during a period when the Nazi regime was in power. It is known that Hugo Ferdinand Boss joined the Nazi Party and produced uniforms for the SS, which has somewhat tarnished its reputation in contemporary men`s fashion. However, to avoid appearing dismissive, it should be noted that the suits and overall clothing lines of Boss and Hugo — two of the brand’s main collections — are characterised by a careful quality and follow a minimalist, refined design style that appeals to a broad segment of consumers.

Currently, the company operates hundreds of stores worldwide and generates revenues exceeding four billion euros. In 2011, the brand issued an official apology for its actions during the Nazi era, under the leadership of Hugo Boss, acknowledging its past.

For his new partnership, Beckham x Boss, the renowned British athlete explained that his primary aim was to design a collection of clothing that he himself would want to wear. This was hardly an ambitious goal, as both Beckham—and, of course, Hugo Boss—are characterised by their minimalist approach to fashion: streamlined suits, polo shirts, jackets, and overcoats, all crafted with elegant cuts and high-quality fabrics.

The collection features versatile pieces suitable for all-day wear, characterised by neutral colour palettes and easy mix-and-match options. Special attention has been given to accessories loved by the former footballer, such as Chelsea-style boots and flat caps in the classic baker boy style.

Beckham has always sought a way to enter the fashion world. As he himself states, not quite in the same way as his wife Victoria, who remains fully committed to her own brand, but perhaps as a guest collaborator through select partnerships. It’s worth recalling that prior to this collaboration, he starred in a campaign for the same brand’s bodywear line. He was apparently quite impressed by the proposition, especially as he approached fifty, and decided to prepare intensively for 14 weeks, working out rigorously. As he mentioned in a recent interview, "It was necessary to train so hard — after all, I didn`t intend to publicly wear my underwear again at this age."

In recent years, Beckham has adopted a more classic and timeless style. He also mentioned that, as a genuine Brit, he admires the rich tradition of British men`s tailoring. This is one of the reasons he particularly appreciates the linen suits from the Beckham x Boss summer 2025 collection, which he sometimes recommends pairing with slightly bolder combinations—such as a knitted cotton pink shirt, inspired by the relaxed style of his second home, Miami.

However, as he states, “That’s as far as I go,” as he has left the bold fashion choices to the younger generation and his sons. Nowadays, he prefers to project a more classic and discreet elegance—an aesthetic that reflects his current mature style.
