This column highlights trends that pique our interest, alongside those—often with a dash of humor—that we would recommend only to those we’re less fond of. It’s worth noting, as we have mentioned before, that men’s fashion has been showcasing some truly inspiring and creative ideas in recent years. While many concepts are unexpected and delightful, some admittedly flirt with or even cross the line into bad taste. Nonetheless, this column has a deep appreciation for fashion, particularly for charismatic personal style, no matter how eccentric it may be. After all, the author has never claimed to be solely a fan of classic style, even though he holds it in high regard. However, it’s impossible to admire every men’s collection or designer equally. Take, for instance, the works of Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga or Andreas Kronthaler at Vivienne Westwood, which we won`t delve into in detail here.
Prints and Patterns Geometric, plaid, abstract, military, and even floral designs in bold colours such as red, pink, pistachio, and yellow—along with a range of earthy tones—add a playful and adventurous touch to menswear. To your enemy, you might consider gifting them a suit with striking floral patterns that , while trendy, inevitably remind one of wallpaper or upholstery in some cases.
Preppy-Ness Lightweight sleeveless and V-neck knits, chic cardigans, Breton stripes, semi-sheer polo shirts, slim ties, and lightweight jackets come together in a trend characterised by a fusion of classic preppy elements with modern twists. For someone you dislike, rather than suggesting a breezy knit sailor shirt, you might recommend a pair of men`s micro shorts, which were prominently featured on the runways.
Workwear everywhere The mantra of this trend is utility and comfort. Cargo and loose-fitting trousers, utilitarian vests, and wide jackets with large pockets offer ample opportunities for creative layering. For your enemy, a completely transparent shirtdress might be fitting, as transparency is also among the major trends of the season.
Sporty elements In this category, we find sporty-style jackets, oversized fabric trousers and shorts, XL short-sleeved football-style T-shirts, lightweight windbreakers over long shirts, full-length overalls, hoodies worn under outerwear, loose sweatshirts, and plenty of play with different lengths. For those you wish to retaliate against, consider a cropped shirt or tank top, as showing off a bare male stomach is also a trend this season.
Relaxed tailoring Comfort remains a key focus this season in men`s fashion. Loose-fitting suits, baggy shirts and trousers, exceptionally comfortable blazers, and luxurious fabrics offer elegance with a relaxed aesthetic. Interesting cuts and fluid shapes that move with the body create one of the season`s favourite trends. Of course, for those mentioned earlier, you might gift a pair of men`s ballerina-style flats that some designers showcased.
Craftsman culture More and more brands are focusing on craftsmanship and unique techniques, reflecting a broader trend towards authenticity and handmade excellence. We discover knitted belts and straw bags, innovative weaving techniques, and embossed decorative designs on jackets and shirts. These skills were previously less common in ready-to-wear collections. And lets not forget, for someone who has "obligated" you with their behaviour, gift them a full-length neon jumpsuit that ends at a capri length, ensuring they`re always in sight.
