A new era for Naked
The owners of Naked Athens, Christina Foka and Thanos Krimbouras, are investing in a more sustainable and creative philosophy, transforming the bar into a taste laboratory where the quality of ingredients takes center stage. Located near Agia Irini Square, they have created the Naked Athens Experimental Hub, a space dedicated to researching and developing new cocktail techniques, as well as hosting seminars, presentations, and mixology workshops. In specially designed areas with appropriate lighting, they cultivate herbs and sprouts, valuable ingredients for their delicious cocktails and dishes, and they also partner with Eumelia Farm for all their raw materials. A few weeks ago, I visited both spaces, and I must admit that this transformation and the new identity of the duo brought me immense joy.
Minimalism with Intensity
Naked Athens retains its industrial character but approaches it with a more refined touch. Wood, metal, and natural materials dominate the space, creating a sense of intimacy while following a pattern of minimalism infused with intensity, much like its cocktail menu.
The new menu at Naked Athens revolves around two main themes: “Discover” and “Uncover.” The first category highlights classic cocktails with a twist, featuring drinks like the Strawberry Bloody Mary, Apple Not Martini, and Spicy Mango Paloma—all of which impress with their clarity and intensity of flavour.
In the “Uncover” category, the focus is on sustainability and the recycling of ingredients. Each key component is used in different forms. For example, the Pineapple Tai incorporates pineapple both in its flavour and as a garnish, while the Carob Old Fashioned repurposes leftover carob from the kitchen, transforming it into a unique syrup. Other interesting offerings include the Mandarine Tequila Sunrise, where pomegranate is fermented to create a natural grenadine, and the Kiwi GnT, which features kiwi both in the drink and as its garnish. Each cocktail is a delightful surprise for the palate, with flavours that gradually unfold.
The Food: A Natural Extension of Naked`s Philosophy
The new Naked Athens isn’t just about drinks; its food menu follows the same philosophy, featuring fresh, local ingredients and a zero-waste mindset. The menu is rooted in Greek traditions.
From comfort brunch options with homemade breads and seasonal vegetables to creative tapas that marry simplicity with flavour, each dish enhances the cocktail pairing experience. Notable selections include comforting handmade cacio e pepe gnocchi with aged myzithra and black pepper, Kimolos` traditional ladenia, or tender pork ribeye spiced with gyro seasoning and served with pita.
Guest Nights and International Collaborations
This season, Naked Athens is bringing exciting collaborations from abroad, hosting guest bartenders from some of the world`s top bars. On March 13, the bar will welcome Ruby Copenhagen and Chester & Punk from Málaga, while on March 28, renowned mixologist Eddie Rudzinskas from Cocktail For You will showcase unique creations. Additionally, their new whiskey will be introduced at an exclusive event at the Naked Experimental Hub, accompanied by a guest shift at the main bar.
Naked Athens is redefining the cocktail experience in the city by combining taste, aesthetics, and sustainability. With new techniques, international partnerships, and a menu that honours natural ingredients, it proves that the future of the bar scene is more "naked" than ever.
